Spanish property Exhibitions, shows and events are useful for basic research and information gathering but nothing beats actually seeing the
real location for yourself. Don't spend too much time trying to find the exact property model that you want from brochures and
leaflets.
Some of the events listed on the Spanish property Exhibition calendar above are small hotel exhibitions run by a single company. This
type of event can be useful but you will only see the range of properties that the company offers.
The larger property exhibitions and shows will feature many companies so you see a much more varied range of properties and locations.
Tips:
Work out your budget before you attend.
What is your ideal budget? Eg. You might be willing to spend £140000 to £160000 on your Spanish property.
What is your absolute maximum budget to spend on the magically perfect home in an incredible location? Eg. You might stretch to £180000
for your dream home that ticks all the boxes.
Does your budget include or exclude the buying costs & furnishing costs that might amount to 10% or 15% of the purchase price?
Have an idea of what type of property you are looking for - Villa, townhouse, apartment etc. but be flexible as you may find your initial
thoughts change as you do your research.
Are you wanting resale property, off-plan property or key-ready property? Off-plan developments are becoming a more risky option as the
Spanish property market slows down. There are a huge glut of resale and key-ready properties in many of the popular costas and surprisingly
low offers may be accepted by the more desperate sellers.
Decide if you want to go with an agent on their subsidised inspection trip or if you would rather visit Spain independently.
Don't be fooled or pressurised into making quick decisions. Eg. There are only 2 apartments left on this ideal development.
It is currently a buyer's market so take your time.
Some agent's will suggest that your new Spanish property will fund itself out of the rental income. You will be lucky to rent it out
much more than the 15 peak summer weeks so do your calculations pessimistically assuming just 10 weeks rental each year. Don't forget
little things like running costs and taxes.
Which Spanish property agents do you trust and wish to visit their stand?
Which Spanish property agents do you not trust and therefore want to avoid?
Have any Spanish property agents or developers been on any consumer watchdog programmes?

Don't give your name and telephone details to every stand at the show unless you want to be inundated with sales calls! Be
selective.
Ask things like - "What makes your company special?" "What's special about that area of Spain?" Get an idea of how well they know
what they are talking about.
